If your custom typing texts appear in the order they were added instead of alphabetical order, there is a simple workaround.
Why are my custom texts not sorted alphabetically?
In TypingMaster 12, the built-in practice texts are displayed in alphabetical order.
However, texts that you add yourself are marked as user-added, and these are displayed at the top of the list in the order they were created or imported. Because of this, keyboard navigation (for example, pressing R to find all texts starting with "R") may not work as expected for custom texts.
How can I make my custom texts appear in alphabetical order?
You can edit the text definition file and remove the flag that marks the text as a user-added item.
Step 1: Locate the text file
Open your TypingMaster installation folder and browse to:
C:\Users\YOUR-NAME-HERE\AppData\Local\Programs\TypingMaster\Texts\
Find the .EXI file for the text you want to change. Newly added texts are usually the most recently created .exi files.
Step 2: Open the file
Open the .EXI file using Notepad or another plain text editor.
You will see something similar to:
Name=myown edited author=Typing Master PreventBackspace=0 HideResults=0 Time=5 Time.locked=0 mustTypeAll=1 encode=utf8 dateAdded=46216.328125 userAdded=TMPro Copyright=Added by 4412412142 13/07/2026...
Step 3: Remove this line
Delete the following line:
userAdded=TMPro
Save the file.
The next time TypingMaster loads the text list, that text will be treated like a standard text and will appear in alphabetical order.
I have hundreds of custom texts. Do I have to edit them one by one?
No.
If you have many custom texts, you can:
- Compress (ZIP) all of the
.EXIfiles. - Use an AI assistant or a batch text replacement tool to remove the line:
userAdded=TMPro
from every file.
After replacing the edited files, your custom texts will appear alphabetically.
Will this affect the text itself?
No.
Removing the userAdded=TMPro line only changes how TypingMaster categorizes the text. The typing content, settings, and timing remain unchanged.
Will this be fixed in a future version?
This behavior has been reported by users. A future update may provide an option to sort all texts alphabetically without requiring manual editing. Until then, the method above is the recommended workaround.
