Using Separate Cloud Folders for TeacherWrite and StudentWrite

It is possible to configure ULTIMATE TYPING COACH to sync data either to a shared (local file server) folder or a cloud drive. When a cloud drive is selected, the default configuration is intentionally simple, allowing users to start quickly evaluating, without complex setup.

Q1: What is the default cloud folder setup?

By default, the system uses one shared cloud folder that contains two subfolders:

  • TeacherWrite – for teacher-writable data

  • StudentWrite – for student-writable data

This setup is simple but grants both areas the same parent-folder permissions—unless the cloud platform allows editing permissions for each subfolder. For example, pCloud currently requires creating two separate shared cloud folders in order to configure different permissions for teacher and student areas.

Q2: Why use two separate cloud folders?

Using two independent cloud folders improves security and allows different access permissions:

  • Read-only folder for student machines to receive teacher data (configurations, license, etc)

  • Read/write folder for students to submit work (lesson progress)

This prevents accidental edits to teacher resources and allows better control over data access.

Q3: How does a teacher set up these folders in pCloud?

  1. Teacher creates two separate folders in their pCloud account:

    • e.g., TeacherWriteArea

    • e.g., StudentWriteArea

  2. Teacher configures folder permissions:

    • TeacherWriteArea – Read-only for students

    • StudentWriteArea – Read/write for students

  3. Teacher sends invite links to students for each folder.

    • Students accept the invite to access the folders.

This ensures that students only have the intended access to each folder.

Q4: How do I configure the student workstation to use these folders?

Run the usual CloudDriveWiz.exe (or configure during the setup) to adjust the credentials.

After this, you need to update the tmnpath.ini file on each student machine with the correct paths, you may want to change at least the SyncInPath, or both:

>> Settings are stored in tmnpath.ini (edit with Notepad)

[path]

AppData=0

SyncMode=tmpcloud

SyncInpath=tmpcloud:mydatashareReadOnly\TeacherWriteArea

SyncOutpath=tmpcloud:mydatashareReadWrite\StudentWriteArea

DataBase=c:\TMUltimateApp11\database
